The word “handcuff” is a popular corruption of the Anglo-Saxon “handcop,” meaning that which “cops” or “catches the hands.”

One of the most common slang expressions used to refer to the police is “copper,” meaning one who “cops” the offending individual.

The HANDCOP® was designed in 2015 by Karl OscarDelta.

By taking a prehistoric method of restraint and combining it with modern materials and an understanding of restraint escape and counter-escape methods, Karl OscarDelta designed a restraint that is both convenient to carry (it can be worn like a bracelet) and easy to deploy (minimal training required). When applied correctly (double-locked), it is very difficult to escape from.
